Take my advice, mate …

A happy coming together of slightly iffy metering (by me) and then a linesman whose head was at exactly the right height relative the sign behind him.

The detail of the wall has been burned away and the crop takes out any other details. Bizarrely no other photoshoppery at all beyond a bit of sharpening …

And the poor fellow has an Amateur Football Alliance badge.

Most soccer fans are pretty hopeless at the game’s history beyond knowing the dates “1966” and whenever their team last contested a final. The AFA is an interesting one though – formed because football was getting dangerously professionalised it was an attempt to restore the founding values of the FA (it was the Football League that brought professionalism). It continues today as a County FA.

The photo above (see it large here) was taken at the FA Cup preliminary round tie between Chesham United and Chalfont St Peter – see some more of the action here.

And I also spent a bit of time cricket watching – the derby between Chesham and Amersham – see that set here.
