I was heading out to see something else entirely when suddenly over the road I noticed Lumas. Lumas is a photo art gallery with numbers of branches in Germany and now it has a presence on Conduit Street in London. Which is nice. Right now their space is crammed with representative work by the many photographers on their books – for sale for prices that are not too eye-watering. The quality is high and there’s a very pleasing mix of styles. In particular I liked Christopher Pillitz’s sultry black and white tango pictures – even though serious folk might think them a bit too Vettriano – and Larry Yust’s bright, vivid highly detailed shots of San Francisco which are presented and framed cut along the gradient of the hills.
There’s a proper exhibition on the way – David Downton ‘Fashion Affairs’ – which opens on 4 March but they are offering invitations to an evening reception the night before. There may even be booze.
See a bit more about Lumas here.
