On Saturday at The Meadow a referee was punched to the ground and so the match was abandoned, Sunday was somewhat calmer although the referee did have to ‘have a word’ with the visiting manager. And the match was actually played to a proper finish with Chesham United Ladies doing the business with four first-half goals to overwhelm Southampton Saints.
Chesham were strong in last year’s Southwest Combination but this year the results don’t seem to have gone quite so much their way. This was however their second win of the season and it followed on from last week’s victory over Newquay. The game was over inside about ten minutes as two quick goals put the home side ahead and it was something of a miracle that it was only four by the break. In the second half, Southampton had an even share of possession but neither side created many open chances.
Next up for Chesham is the University of Portsmouth who are like Southampton and Newquay stuck on one victory for the season. If Chesham start as they did today they should be able to ensure the students’ search for win number two lasts beyond the ninety minutes next Sunday.
