With a few minutes to go it didn’t look like England were going to get to cheer in a team photo. Trailing France 22-18 they didn’t seem to be able to find a way through but then a bit of a scrap and the French lost concentration – a couple of drives later and a last-minute converted try followed by a drop goal meant that the Community Lions U18s (it’s a bit laborious defining exactly which representative English side is playing at any given point) were victorious. This is broadly how Australia win so many rugby league internationals at senior level. The French trooped off dejected, no team photos for them, the English … well, let’s just say there was also an eighteenth birthday party going on at Pennine Way in Hemel where the match was played so I’m guessing they took their good moods off the pitch and into there.
Some match photos are here, should you be interested.
