Always nice to come across something you missed and thanks to the good folk at lensculture I’m now enjoying the slideshow of Peter Dench’s Parr-esque “Drinking of England”. As a series it gets across just how pervasive booze is to the English – from laughing old gents clutching a little glass of red to teenagers necking a litre of cider. There’s less potential sneering than you get with Martin Parr but it’s also a long way short of ‘affectionate’ and you do find yourself wondering, “Wouldn’t it be nice to sit down with a coffee once in a while?”
You can see it at lensculture here.
