For more than a hundred years, from 1864 to 1996, the cricket ground in Hastings played host to around 250 top-level first-class (and one day equivalent) cricket fixtures. Charles Turner returned match figures of 17 for 50 for an Australian side against an England XI in 1888, in 1984 Sussex and Kent played out a tie, and W G Grace flexed his muscles there forty times. It’s now a shopping centre and the cricket ground has moved up the hill and out of sight.
